FAQs

What is sex therapy?

Sex therapy is nothing to be afraid of! It is traditional psychotherapy, with a trained sex therapist. AASECT-certified sex therapists are trained psychotherapists (social workers, psychologists, nurse practitioners, marriage and family counselors) who have specialized training and education about supporting clients to promote physiological and emotional wellbeing related to sexuality and pleasure. Working with a sex therapist, you will develop a better relationship to your body, be able to express your desires and relate to your partner(s) with new authenticity and honesty.

Common concerns which can be helped with sex therapy include:

  • Pain during sex

  • Lack of sexual desire

  • Reduced libido

  • Difficulty or inability to orgasm

  • Premature ejaculation

  • Erectile dysfunction or inability to maintain an erection

  • Sexual abuse or trauma

  • Sexual identity questions

  • Unequal sex drives between partners

  • Lack of sex between partners

  • Difficulty communicating around sexual matters

Do you have any openings?

Sometimes! My practice is often at capacity, but I do maintain a waitlist that can range from a couple of weeks to 2-3 months (if you and I determine that we are a good fit). I always welcome calls to discuss your needs regardless of my availability.

Do you take insurance?

I do not participate in any insurance plans. However, you may have “out-of-network” benefits through your insurance company. These benefits will usually cover a portion of my fees. You may have a deductible or a per-visit “co-insurance amount.” You would be responsible for my full fee at the time of service, and then I can provide you a “superbill” which you can send to your company for reimbursement. You can check out this article for more information on the process or you can contact your insurance company directly.

Although controversial, there are a number of reasons why I have chosen not to be paneled with insurance companies. First, I don’t feel ethically comfortable assigning a diagnostic code for many relational issues. Second, I am devoted to spending my time caring for clients and not managing claims. And third, by not accepting insurance, I guarantee that your care is not dictated by the insurance company, but by the collaborative efforts formed by my professional expertise and your personal preferences and goals.

What are your fees?

For individual sessions, the first appointment is $225 and lasts about 60 minutes. Follow-up appointments are $200 and last about 50 minutes.

For couples and marriage therapy, my process is to meet with the couple for 60 minutes once or twice to get a sense of the problems bringing you to treatment. Next, I will meet individually with each partner for a 90-minute session to better understand each person’s history. After individual sessions conclude, all couples sessions will be approximately 50 minutes in length. Fees for these sessions are:

  • Intake session - $225

  • 90 minute sessions - $300

  • 50 minute sessions - $200

I reserve a small number of slots in my practice to offer at a reduced cost. Please contact me for consideration prior to your appointment.

When do you offer sessions?

My daytime hours are:

  • Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 AM - 2 PM

  • Thursdays from 10 AM - 5 PM.

I also see clients on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 - 8:30 PM.
